Remote door locking

Now as much as I love my Mazda CX-5, it is not without it's faults. It's less about whether something works or not, and more one where it could have been so much better.

One such situation is the remote & locking of the car. I don't want to diminish the complication of keyless access and still have an intuitive experience. But adding a couple of features could make future Mazdas more amazing. Hopefully I will be the owner of one of those future ones.

Locking the car while the bootlid is closing

Unfortunately, the closing bootlid is rather tedious and slow, but that is something I can live with. I suppose, not everyone moves at the same pace, so perhaps it is timed perfectly. When walking away while the lid is closing, it would have been so useful for me to lock the car at the same time. For some reason, while the bootlid is lowering, it is unable to receive the lock command. So you are forced to wait for the lid to be fully closed before locking the car.

Opening the windows with the remote

When you live in South Africa, the first thing you do on a hot summers day when getting in your car is to open a window. Often, our cars stand in open parking lots meaning the full African sun baked the car to unbearable temperatures. In the past, I owned a VW Golf and an Audi A3, both of which I was able to open the windows remotely by holding down the unlock key for more then 3 seconds. This was a real neat party trick as well as super useful in those hot days.

So as you can see, it is not that something is not working. It really is just extending the car's existing awesomeness.
